Student Workshops

Program for the Workshops

The purpose of the student workshops is to disseminate current knowledge and experience in the theory and application of quantitative laryngology, voice and speech research amongst students, early-stage investigators and other scientists. Students and registered AQL participants will be able to attend the workshops at no charge if registered for the workshops before the deadline, May 20th, 2013. The registration is now open.

Members of the 2013 AQL Scientific and Organizing Committee will develop and host six student workshops on June 2nd and June 5th, 2013. A Special AQL workshop is offered on June 5th, 2013. The titles of the workshops are as follows:

  • Special AQL Workshop: "Gender equality: Building the international network of women in voice research" organized by Dr. Anke Ziethe and Veronika Birk from Erlangen, Germany;

  • Workshop 1: “The relationship between vortices, acoustics, and vocal fold vibrations: theory and experimental techniques” by Drs. Sid Khosla, Martin Rothenberg and Liran Oren;

  • Workshop 2: “Voice and speech: How voice affects intelligibility” by Dr. Suzanne Boyce;

  • Workshop 3: “Voice disorders and clinical voice assessment” by Dr. Bernice Klaben;

  • Workshop 4: “Contemporary Care of the Pediatric Voice: Perspectives from Laryngology and Speech Pathology” by Drs. Alessandro de Alarcon, Lisa Kelchner, Barbara Weinrich and Susan Brehm;

  • Workshop 5: “Laryngeal imaging and quantitative voice assessment” by Drs. Dimitar Deliyski, Stephanie Zacharias, Robert Orlikoff and Daryush Mehta;

  • Workshop 6: “The Call and the Belt; two approaches to producing loud voice for the stage" by Drs. Eva van Leer and Wendy LeBorgne.

Each workshop will be presented twice in two parallel sessions. Participants will be able to attend up to three workshops per day. Thus, it will be possible for a participant to attend up to six workshops between June 2nd and June 5th. The registration process allows selecting each specific workshop presentation. Special AQL Workshop

The special AQL Workshop titled “Gender equality: Building the international network of women in voice research” will be presented on June 5th at 8:30am-11:00am. The special workshop is organized by Dr. Anke Ziethe and Veronika Birk from Erlangen, Germany.
